    A critical review of quality of service models in mobile ad hoc networks

    Quality of service (QoS) provisioning in mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) consists of providing a complex functionality in a harsh environment where resources are scarce. Thus, it is very challenging to build an efficient solution to address this issue. The proposed solutions in the literature are broadly classified into four categories, namely: QoS routing protocols, QoS signalling, QoS-aware MAC protocols and QoS models, which are the main concern of our study. The contribution of this paper is threefold: Firstly, we propose a set of guidelines to deal with the challenges facing QoS models design in ad hoc networks. Secondly, we propose a new taxonomy for QoS models in ad hoc networks. Finally, we provide an in-depth survey and discussion of the most relevant proposed frameworks.

    Extending the AODV Protocol to Provide Quality of Service in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

    Voice communication is the most needed application in disaster management. However, without good QoS tuning, its performance can be poor. QoS routing is one of the most important building blocks in any given QoS solution. To conceive a QoS routing protocol for ad hoc networks, we can either conceive anew protocol from scratch, or extend an existing best effort protocol like AODV (Ad-hoc On- Demand Distance Vector Routing Protocol). The main advantage for the second approach is its easiness. In this paper, we propose a new QoS routing protocol that can satisfy multimedia application requirements in ad hoc networks. Thereafter, we present and discuss simulation results obtained under the NS-2 simulator for a VoIP application

    Extension de AOMDV pour la satisfaction des besoins de la VoIP dans les réseaux Mesh

    La VoIP dans le réseau mesh fait face à plusieurs défis tels que la sécurité, le routage, la scalabilité, et la qualité de service (QoS). Cette dernière peut être assurée à plusieurs niveaux du modèle OSI dont la couche réseau. Dans ce travail, Nous adoptons une approche hybride entre le routage avec QoS et le routage multipath. Cette combinaison donne naissance à un nouveau protocole nommé AOMDV-D (AOMDV with Delay constraints), qui a comme objectif principal l’estimation du délai local d’attente par la fonction EWMA (exponentially weighted moving average), et faire un contrôle d’admission pour assurer la QoS. Nous avons implémenté notre protocole dans le simulateur NS-2 en modifiant le protocole AOMDV.

    Information technology for Enhancing Disaster Management

    Responding to natural or man-made disasters, in a timely and effective manner, can reduce deaths and injuries as well as economic losses. Predicated on the assumption that better information leads to efficient decision-making and more effective performance of crisis response, research projects applying advanced information technology solutions to the crisis management field have emerged. This paper provides an overview of most recent projects, in this area, all over the world. Furthermore, the study highlights that using scalable and robust IT solutions can drastically facilitate access to the right information, by the right individuals and organizations, at the right time.
